Sustainable floor coverings at Manchester’s Stopford Building

Sector: Healthcare

The Stopford Building is the medical school at the University of Manchester. As part of our on-going work with the University we were the preferred flooring contractor for the refurbishment work in the building. There are three floors and 900m2 of floor to cover.

sustainable floor coveringsWe chose to fit Marmoleum Real from Forbo throughout the building. A big player in the sustainable floor coverings market, Marmoleum is made from 97% natural raw materials, 72% rapidly renewable and 43% recycled content. Both Branagan Flooring Services and the University of Manchester are hugely concerned with sustainability and we take our commitment to being green seriously, and so Marmoleum was selected for this reason.

Forbo’s main linoleum brand, Marmoleum is also durable, high quality and natural in appearance as well as make-up. Part of the Marmoleum Next Generation range, Marmoleum Real is a high performance sustainable floor covering that “combines ecological and economic values that help bring modern and contemporary architecture to life.”

Marmoleum Real is built up from 2 to 5 colours that are processed together to create a marbled structure. These can vary from classic and bold brights to warm neutrals to compliment other natural building elements.

All Marmoleum floors now include Topshield2, a double UV cured finish. Applied during the production of the linoleum, it encourages lasting appearance retention. Cleaning requirements are low maintenance with sweeping, vacuuming and dust mopping recommended daily and damp mopping with neutral detergents and red pads for an occasional clean. Autoscrubbing and black and brown pads are not advisable.
